My Hurricane Forecast?

A storm is brewing, what's the official forecast for me?

Evacuating

Note: Approaching hurricanes tend to be evolving situations. Always consult local officials and local news for the latest forecast, evacuations, and other important, potentially life saving information. If told to evacuate, do so.

Apps

Is there an app for that?

Consider This:

While apps are useful, human forecasters have a better track record then weather models. Weather apps tend to use GFS model (because it's data is free) with no human interpretation. This can lead to trouble if that one model says hurricane misses, while Hurricane Center may forecast direct hit.

Tip: Models & apps aid us, but they haven't replaced trained professionals

Free Apps:

I reccomend the following free apps:

Storm Shield

APP1.png

For me, this is the fastest to receive warnings or general weather advisories for areas I select. Can choose multiple locations to receive alerts on (family, friends, home, vacation spot, etc.). Great app.

FEMA

APP2.JPG

Not the prettiest app or easiest to use, but for me, this is the second fastest to receive warnings or general weather advisories for my area.

Red Cross - Hurricane App

APP3.JPG

Gives general tips on Hurricane prep, hurricane track map, mobile alert for desired weather alerts within a set distance range you select for one more locations. Not the best, but decent backup.

Windy

APP4.png

Lot of interesting features and visual graphics to aide in seeing what's going on around you.

Max Tracker

APP5.png

Features several Hurricane tracking tools such as cone maps, Watch/Warnings, radar, etc.

wX

APP6.png

Best app to see your local NWS 7-day forecast & more. No frills, kind of hard to navigate, but a lot of NWS, SPC, NHC, radar and other features.

~Did you know?~

You can create an 'app' button on your smartphone of any website! I use this for my local NWS office & latest NHC updates!

iOS:

-Visit desired web page

-Tap Safari browser bottom center icon

-Select 'Add to Home Screen'

-Update name, tap 'Add'

Android:

-Visit desired web page

-Tap 3 dot Chrome browser menu icon

-Select 'Add to Home Screen'

-Update name, tap 'Add'

Paid Apps:

I rarely pay for apps, but here are some to consider:

Radar Scope

APP8.png

A must for any weather enthusiast allowing for multiple channels at each radar site, but for the casual user go with something else.

Radar Omega

APP7.png

While I've never used, there seems to be many on social media that prefer this app and it's multiple features.
